The office

We are PCA-STREAM, a Paris-based architecture, urban strategies, and research office. We work outside the traditional boundaries of city-making and operate with a keen fascination for arts, science, design, and research. Our collective of 100 collaborators from various backgrounds forms an interdisciplinary practice focusing on healing cities and managing complex urban metabolisms.

RETHINKING THE URBAN PRACTICE

We advocate an urban practice of care: for nature, cities, humans and non-humans. The climatic and ecological context confronts us with the need to change the way we inhabit the Earth and build our cities. We work outside the conventional boundaries of city-making and operate with a keen fascination for arts, science, design and research. We lead a reflexive practice where research and design cross-pollinate, and this approach leads us to form interdisciplinary urban coalitions to realize our projects.

THINK BUILD

Our office is a laboratory where we explore, produce and test solutions for pressing global challenges. We work to redefine the playing field for urban makers and thinkers.

THINK Our mission is to foster innovation and solve complex challenges through collective intelligence, dialogue, and iteration between disciplines. Our STREAM LAB undertakes in-house research & development projects to explore critical urban matters of our era. We share our findings online via our Stream Voices digital magazine, extensively in our STREAM books and collectively via the programming of the Stream Innovation Center.

BUILD Our research practice informs our design strategy. We create projects at every level of the urban realm, from large-scale urban visions to interior designs. Our practice thrives for healthy cities: inclusive, desirable, and sustainable.

A FERTILE ECOSYSTEM

We see PCA-STREAM as a multidisciplinary ecosystem, hosting different practices that cross-pollinate. Located in the heart of Paris, our office comprises a transdisciplinary research hub (the Stream Lab), a design studio and an on-site execution practice. Our office embodies our way: an open, flexible & transparent space fostering dialogue, collaboration, knowledge exchange and care.

PCA Our office space acts as a manifesto. We gave a former printing house a second life by reconverting it into an open workspace that accommodates collective well-being and fosters new work modes: collaborative, creative, flexible, or informal. The functional diversity of spaces echoes the multidisciplinary nature of PCA-STREAM’s practice.

Stream Innovation Center Located at the heart of the office, the Stream Innovation Center is a meeting hub for a community of urban experts. The SIC is where arts, science and society cross-pollinate to create new knowledge, methods, and stories for the sustainable city.

Expertise

Cities are complex systems that need managing. We operate at all scales of the urban metabolism, from large-scale urban visions to architecture and interior design.

Architecture We design with a researcher’s eye and work towards an inspiring, solution-oriented architecture that will adapt to changing times. Our signature is our methodology.

Interiors We focus on the end-user and design spaces that make sense. We care for identity, well-being, and sustainability - down to the smallest scale.

Urban strategies We see cities as living organisms that need to be managed and healed. We develop large-scale visions and lead interdisciplinary urban coalitions.

Research We explore a broad range of fields and disciplines to create new collective knowledge and narratives, foster innovation and provide design solutions for global challenges.
